Alan joined Chris Haines in partnership in January 1981 having spent nine years at Fell & Starkey (Ernst & Ernst) in their audit division and then four years at Nelson Wheeler (two years as a partner), in a Business Services role.
At HMH Alan has had primary responsibility for the audits of the firm, in addition to a range of small / medium business services clients which comprise tax, accounting and business advice, including business valuations.
Since 2008 Alan has acted as the firm’s CEO following a restructure of the practice. This necessitated the transfer of many clients to other partners, which fortunately has been a seemless and successful exercise. Alan still looks after a number of the firm’s major clients including some audits.
Alan and his wife Wendy have three daughters and six grandchildren.
A keen Hawthorn supporter, Alan also finds time for weekly golf at the Portsea Golf Club and leisure time at his Mornington Peninsula holiday house.
With one English son-in-law, Alan also has an interest in the English Premier League and “under instruction” follows Arsenal - sort of!
